KTM Introduces Open Payment System: Debit, Credit Cards, E-Wallets Accepted At 80 Stations

The Malaysian Transport Ministry, under the leadership of Minister Anthony Loke revealed a new open payment system for Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) commuter services. This system, inaugurated during a ceremony at the Ipoh Railway Station, is now operational across 80 stations spanning the Klang Valley and northern region, as reported by Bernama.

The newly introduced system enables passengers to utilise debit cards, credit cards, and e-wallets for seamless transactions at automated gates, boasting swift transaction completion times ranging between one to five seconds. It’s worth noting, however, that these payment options are currently exclusive to KTMB’s Komuter lines. Passengers utilising the Electric Train Service (ETS) will still need to resort to online booking, owing to the seat reservation process.

This digitalisation initiative, backed wholeheartedly by the Transport Ministry, represents KTMB’s commitment to improving service accessibility and convenience for commuters nationwide. Notably, KTMB had previously rolled out the Rail Rewards loyalty program on 1 January, incentivising passengers with points for each ticket purchase made through the KTMB Integrated Ticketing System. These accrued points can later be redeemed for future ticket purchases, further enriching the customer experience.
