Melaka Urges Federal Government To Boost Permanent Appointments To 92% Target

The state government is urging the federal government to contemplate securing permanent appointments until reaching the designated threshold of 92 percent approval.

The Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, highlighted that the current rate of permanent appointments stands at 83.9 percent, encompassing a total of 36,300 civil servants in Melaka, including permanent and contract appointments from various state and federal departments and agencies.

He said the consideration for approval was also based on Melaka, being among the states that could not establish a State Public Service Commission (SPA), where all civil servants, whether permanent or contract, in state departments were appointed under the SPA.

“This percentage is still below the filling ceiling set by the Public Service Department, which is 92 percent.

“I am concerned that if the 83.9 percent filling rate continues, considering that the number of civil servants retiring by the end of this year is 74 people,” he said.

He said this during his opening speech at the First Meeting of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim with Melaka State Civil Servants at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) here today, Bernama reported.

He said the narrowing of the gap was also feared to affect the smooth delivery of services to the people, especially in Melaka.

“Therefore, the state government would like to request that this approval be considered so that all policies formulated by the state government can be implemented more comprehensively,” he added.
