Malaysia’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, has expressed Malaysia’s interest in learning from the UAE’s advanced artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. He stated that potential for cooperation for mutual benefit could be established and further strengthened.

Quoting the theme of the global gathering, “Shaping Future Governments,” as a great idea, Ahmad Fadil said: “In this context, I believe Malaysia will have the best opportunity to collaborate with the UAE government as they are advanced in AI.”

Ahmad Fadil also outlined Malaysia’s aspirations in renewable energy and data management and the potential for cooperation in both areas. “I believe the Malaysian government through the renewable energy sector led by the Deputy Prime Minister cum Minister of Energy Transition and Public Utilisation, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, can further explore opportunities in data centers and the energy sector.

Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, Malaysia’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) also stressed the importance of leveraging Malaysia’s existing expertise by collaborating with key entities within the country for mutual benefits in the field of AI, as reported by a local news portal.

In a move to enhance cooperation in renewable energy and AI, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his delegation visited the MASDAR City office and Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) located in MASDAR City last October.

Last January, Malaysia’s Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) and the UAE’s Ministry of Investment reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing investment cooperation in the digital infrastructure sector.

MITI said both parties had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) marking a strategic partnership on the development of data centers in Malaysia with potential projects expected to reach a capacity of 500 megawatts. The UAE is Malaysia’s second-largest trading partner, second-largest export destination, and second-largest import source from West Asia.
