PwC’s Nurul A’in Abdul Latif Appointed Chair Of 30% Club Malaysia

Nurul A’in Abdul Latif, Executive Chair and Assurance Partner at PwC Malaysia, has been appointed as the new Chair of the 30% Club Malaysia. In her new role, Nurul A’in will lead efforts to advance women leaders on corporate boards and management teams across Malaysia.

Data from the Securities Commission Malaysia revealed that as of January 1, 2024, women hold 30.9% of board seats in the top 100 public listed companies (PLCs) and 25.6% of seats in all PLCs on Bursa Malaysia.

Founding Chair of the 30% Club Malaysia, Tan Sri Zarinah Anwar, highlighted the organisation’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) since its inception in 2015. She emphasized that achieving the 30% minimum threshold for the top 100 PLCs in June 2023 marked a significant milestone towards parity in the boardroom.

Expressing delight at Nurul A’in’s appointment, Zarinah expressed confidence in her ability to drive the mission forward with determination. Nurul A’in affirmed PwC Malaysia’s dedication to promoting inclusion and diversity, stating that she is honored to work towards improving inclusivity on company boards and senior management levels.

The importance of inclusion and diversity goes beyond financial returns, as companies face pressure to transform in response to technological disruption, ESG considerations, and changing consumer preferences.

The 30% Club Malaysia’s Board Mentoring Scheme (BMS), established in collaboration with PwC Malaysia in 2017, has provided guidance to 106 senior women leaders, with 41% securing board roles in PLCs, SMEs, and industry associations.

Nurul A’in emphasised the need to close the gender gap in PLCs overall while ensuring that women appointed to boards are capable of contributing positively to organizational growth. She aims to engage business leaders as advocates for gender parity and expand the pipeline of quality, board-ready women for PLCs.

The 30% Club Malaysia remains committed to driving collective action across sectors to accelerate progress towards a more inclusive future.
