CelcomDigi, China Unicom, Huawei Partner To Deliver 5G Solutions For Business

CelcomDigi Berhad (CelcomDigi), China Unicom Operations (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (CUMY), and Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia) have joined forces to cater to the digitalisation needs of Malaysian enterprises with Intelligent Digital 5GtoB solutions.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked by CelcomDigi, CEO, Datuk Idham Nawawi, CUMY, General Manager, Li Zehui, and Huawei Malaysia, CEO, Simon Sun.

This was witnessed by Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) chairman, Tan Sri Mohamad Salim bin Fateh Din, and CelcomDigi’s chair of the board, YM Tengku Dato’ Sri Azmil Zahruddin, at the Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona, Spain. This alliance further strengthens existing cooperative arrangements to enhance economic ties with China, following China’s commitment in 2023 to invest a record RM170 billion in Malaysia over five years.

Speaking on the partnership, Idham Nawawi, expressed excitement about the possibilities this collaboration brings for Malaysian businesses to access innovative 5G solutions. The goal is to assist more businesses in their digital transformation journey and unlock their true potential with efficient and sustainable operations.

Through this strategic partnership, CelcomDigi will tap into China Unicom’s ecosystem of China-Malaysia-based companies to offer private network connectivity services. This will involve integrating CelcomDigi and Huawei solutions in 5G network access, 5G core network (5GC), and Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC).

Li Zehui, highlighted China Unicom’s active involvement in digital industrial revolution, emphasising their capability to bring industrial development to Malaysia through successful use cases in various sectors.

CUMY will oversee relationship management between Chinese enterprises and CelcomDigi, in addition to serving as system integrators responsible for project integration, operations, services, and maintenance. Ensuring smooth implementation of customer requirements and scope are primary responsibilities of CUMY in this collaboration.

Huawei Malaysia will contribute its cutting-edge 5G products and solutions, along with existing digital platforms, to explore project opportunities with CelcomDigi and China Unicom.

Simon Sun, emphasized their global expertise in deploying state-of-the-art 5G solutions and their commitment to assisting CelcomDigi with 5G to enterprise application capabilities, as well as introducing related ecosystem partners. He emphasised leveraging their experience in digital transformation solutions to create new value for enterprise customers.
