Allianz General Insurance Company (Malaysia) Berhad (Allianz General) has introduced a new insurance coverage called the Allianz EV Shield for electric cars under the Private Car Comprehensive policy. This coverage includes an industry-first feature of on-the-go charging, addressing concerns among car owners for stalled EVs out of charge. The launch event took place at Sentul Depot, Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.
In a first-of-its-kind initiative piloting in the Klang Valley, the Allianz EV Rangers provide on-the-spot charging sufficient to cover the range towards the nearest charging facility.
Speaking to the audience, Allianz Malaysia CEO Sean Wang highlighted the distinguishing feature of the EV Shield. He said, “Allianz General continues to redefine roadside assistance for customers. With our latest product, we have identified common mishap touchpoints and designed holistic solutions.
For example, if you run out of battery on the way to catch a flight, our Allianz EV Rangers will come to you, charge your EV battery enough, and set you on your way.”
Customers with Allianz EV Shield can expect benefits covering various touchpoints involved in powering up an EV, including RM15,000 for losses or damages due to fire, theft, and natural causes to wall boxes, and RM2,000 for losses due to fire, theft, and accidental causes for portable charging cables.
If an accident occurs while charging using a public EV Charger, customers are provided with compassionate cover of up to RM5,000 for repair costs or medical expenses if the vehicle is damaged and the insured suffers bodily injuries. Additionally, the insured is covered up to RM50,000 for third-party bodily injury and property damage caused by the insured’s direct use of an EV home wall charger.
Referring to Allianz Malaysia’s top-notch roadside assistance, Sean Wang added, “With our EV Shield, our customers will receive the same premium experience they have come to love. In the unfortunate event of an accident, leave it to our Road Rangers to take over.
Our customers will not be subjected to intimidation by touts who insist on bringing their vehicles to questionable workshops. We work hard to ensure that all the hassle ends with the accident or breakdown.”
