MCMC, GSMA, MMU Collaborate To Expand Telecoms Training Across ASEAN Region

The Malaysian Communications & Multimedia Commission (MCMC), in partnership with The GSM Association (GSMA) and Multimedia University (MMU), has inked a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to extend their Converged Telecommunications Policy and Regulations (CTPR) Masterclass training program across the ASEAN region.

The agreement, signed during the Mobile World Congress organised by GSMA in Barcelona, Spain, on February 27, 2024, aims to continue and broaden the telecoms regulatory training initiative. Signatories included MCMC Chairman, Tan Sri Mohamad Salim bin Fateh Din; MMU President and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Dr. Dato’ Mazliham Mohd Su’ud; and GSMA Chief Regulatory Officer, John Giusti. The signing was witnessed by MCMC Senior Advisor, International Affairs, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Mohd Annuar bin Zaini.

Since its inception in 2015, the CTPR Masterclass has been a collaborative effort between the three entities, focusing on training telecoms professionals in Malaysia.

The new agreement will extend this training program across ASEAN Member States over the next three years, fostering cross-border learning and collaboration. The journey is set to commence in Jakarta, Indonesia, this year.

The CTPR Masterclass is designed for mid to senior-level executives across various domains, including national regulatory agencies, government ministries, telecommunication service providers, and equipment manufacturers/vendors. It provides comprehensive training on all aspects of the converged telecommunications landscape.

Expressing MCMC’s support for the initiative, Salim said, “We are pleased to collaborate with MMU and GSMA in offering a platform for the participants to explore industry trends, disruptive innovations, and strategic imperatives.”

John Giusti highlighted the value of public-private-academic collaboration, saying, “The CTPR Masterclass program demonstrates the value that can be delivered when the public and private sectors work together with academia to develop training that truly addresses the needs of regulatory professionals in the telecoms sector.”

Dr. Mazliham emphasised MMU’s commitment to the partnership, saying, “As a Research-led, Industry-driven University (RIU), MMU is honored to form a strategic partnership with key stakeholders in the communication and technology industry.”

The program encompasses 14 modules covering emerging perspectives in policy and regulations, spectrum management, internet governance, network security, intellectual property rights, business strategy, AI, big data analytics, digital services, network and digital economy, and creative content industry.
