Bursa Malaysia Berhad, in commemoration of International Women’s Day on March 8, 2024, is reinforcing its dedication to gender equality and women’s empowerment through a ‘Ring the Bell for Gender Equality’ ceremony.
Collaborating with LeadWomen and the United Nations Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, the event will feature enlightening panel discussions focusing on sustainable development and gender equality.
The first panel, titled “Invest in Women: Accelerating Progress for Sustainable Development in Malaysia,” will explore the business rationale for investing in women and strategies for advancing Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG5) related to women’s leadership.
The panel includes notable figures such as Bursa Malaysia, Director of Corporate Strategy, Aina Zahari, and UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, International Consultant, Amy Baum.
The second panel, “The Intersections of Gender Equality and Macro Trends in Malaysian Businesses,” will shed light on empowering women in thought leadership and innovation within the business community. Panellists will include Bursa Malaysia, Head of Carbon Market, Dr. Chen Wei-nee, and International Finance Corporation, Manager, Christina Ongoma.
Group Sustainability at Bursa Malaysia, Director of Group Sustainability, Dr. Hezri emphasised the Exchange’s commitment to promoting gender equality, highlighting the increase in women’s representation in senior management.
However, he acknowledged that there is still progress to be made in empowering women within the market.
