Think City Launches Geran Komuniti K2K To Enhance Public Housing Communities

Think City has introduced the Geran Komuniti K2K grant program aimed at empowering communities residing in public housing.

The initiative seeks to address the decline in living standards within Malaysia’s public housing projects while promoting social resilience and sustainability in urban environments.

The Kita-untuk-Kita (K2K) program, formulated as a public investment in social development, was launched in April 2023 by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Implemented across 10 selected public housing projects in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, K2K includes the Geran Komuniti K2K grant initiative, supported by the Ministry of Finance.

Think City, Managing Director, Hamdan Abdul Majeed, underscores the importance of community empowerment in public housing, emphasising the organisation’s belief in community participation for improving liveability.

Through the Geran Komuniti K2K, Think City advocates for a bottom-up approach, encouraging even small efforts to create positive transformations.

The Geran Komuniti K2K fosters cooperation and collaboration among residents to address communal living challenges and enhance social cohesion.

It aims to improve the quality of life for residents in designated sites by promoting community empowerment and well-being through targeted interventions.

The grant program welcomes applications from residents of the designated public housing projects, as well as non-resident individuals, groups, or organisations passionate about making a difference.

Projects can range from small-scale initiatives to large-scale endeavors and may include capacity building, social activation, collective action, content creation, and more.

Hamdan stresses the importance of inclusive cities, aligning with Malaysia’s MADANI economic framework, which aims to reshape the economy for equitable rewards.

Think City’s mission, since its inception in 2009, has been to make cities more liveable, environmentally sustainable, and socially resilient, with successful urban rejuvenation projects across Malaysia.
