TNB, Siemens Energy Collab To Explore Hydrogen Technology In Malaysia

Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) and Siemens Energy are joining forces to explore innovative hydrogen technology solutions for implementation in Malaysia.

Today, Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, emphasised the significance of this partnership, aligning it with the National Energy Transition Plan (NETR).

The collaboration, marked by a memorandum of understanding signed last year, aims to accelerate TNB’s decarbonisation efforts by utilising green hydrogen generated from renewable energy sources in its thermal power generation.

This announcement coincides with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s inaugural visit to Siemens Energy during his six-day official trip to Germany, which commenced yesterday.

He was accompanied by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Datuk Ewon Benedick, and Malaysia’s Ambassador to Germany, Datin Paduka Dr Adina Kamarudin.

Siemens Energy, with operations in 90 countries and a workforce of approximately 90,000, covers the entire energy spectrum, from conventional to renewable energy, grid technology to storage, and electrification of complex industrial processes.

The facility in Huttenstrasse, Berlin, Germany, houses around 3,400 employees engaged in gas turbine installation and electrolysis hydrogen production systems.

Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, and his delegation visited the factory and engaged in discussions with senior officials from Siemens Energy.
