Fortinet, Sunway University Partner To Bridge Cybersecurity Gap

Fortinet® has recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Sunway University, aims to equip students with industry-leading cybersecurity training and certification programs. This initiative seeks to prepare students with the essential skills needed to secure and manage Malaysia’s digital infrastructure effectively.

With the cybersecurity landscape evolving rapidly, the partnership also aims to enhance students’ employment opportunities in the field, thereby helping to bridge the skills gap.

Under the partnership, Sunway University joins Fortinet’s Training Institute’s Academic Partner Program in Malaysia, becoming the latest institution to address the global shortage of cybersecurity talent.

Participants will kickstart their training at the Fortinet Certified Professional level, with opportunities for further specialised training tailored to their career aspirations.

The program will be delivered by certified instructors through a blend of self-paced and teacher-led sessions, offering both classroom instruction and hands-on laboratory work.

By providing real-world exercises, the comprehensive training program aims to produce graduates equipped with the necessary cybersecurity skills to combat international cyber threats effectively and contribute to bolstering the nation’s digital security infrastructure.

Sunway University President, Professor Sibrandes Poppema emphasised the institution’s commitment to meeting industry demands through education.

He expressed confidence that the partnership with Fortinet would empower students to excel in the digital economy and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s needs.

Fortinet Malaysia, Country Manager, Dickson Woo underscored the importance of the collaboration in addressing Malaysia’s cybersecurity challenges. Citing a survey highlighting the shortage of cybersecurity talent in the country, he emphasised the urgency of equipping students with the latest skills to combat evolving cyber threats.
