Dewan Rakyat Focuses on Broadband Access, Subsidised Goods Recovery Plan

In today’s session at the Dewan Rakyat, crucial issues pertaining to rural broadband access and the restoration of subsidised essential goods took center stage.

The discussion saw representatives raising pressing questions and seeking assurances from relevant ministers.

Edwin Anak Banta of GPS-Selangau directed his inquiry towards the Communications Minister, highlighting the urgent need for an alternative action plan to enhance broadband accessibility in rural areas.

Meanwhile, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin from PN-Masjid Tanah pressed the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living for guarantees on the restoration of subsidised essential goods such as sugar, packet oil, and local rice to pre-election levels.

Oscar Ling Chai Yew of PH-Sibu sought clarity from the Minister of Defence regarding the implementation status of measures outlined in the Defence White Paper spanning from 2019 to 2023.

Additionally, the session featured the introduction of four bills for their first reading: the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2024, the Cybersecurity Bill 2024, the Income Tax (Amendment) Bill 2024, and the Labuan Business Activity Tax (Amendment) Bill 2024.

Continuing the legislative agenda, discussions revolved around the Environmental Quality (Amendment) Bill 2023, alongside the Licensed Land Surveyors (Amendment) Bill 2024 and the Supply (Reallocation of Appropriated Expenditure) Bill 2024, all slated for the second reading.

The First Meeting of the Third Term of the 15th Parliament is scheduled to conclude after 19 days, culminating on March 27th, underscoring the ongoing commitment to address critical national issues.
