Malaysia’s Forte Greenergy Inks RM56.5M MOU With Curve H2 Inc. To Unveil Innovative Hydrogen, Graphite Production

Forte Greenergy Sdn Bhd (Forte) formed a partnership with Curve H2 Inc. (Curve H2) introducing a pioneering initiative focused on hydrogen and graphite-related product production.

Leveraging Microwave Plasma Methane pyrolysis technology alongside bio methane or natural gas as inputs, this collaboration marks a significant leap forward in sustainable energy solutions.

The strategic alliance integrates Forte’s expertise in energy solutions with Curve H2’s patented processes, based in Canada, enabling the direct conversion of methane into hydrogen and high-value carbon materials. CURVE H2’s modular technology ensures a stable hydrogen production process, resilient to fluctuations in natural gas availability.

Forte And Curve H2 are delighted to announce a strategic partnership with Malaysia Green Technology Corporation Sdn Bhd (MGTC) and Sarawak Economic Development Corporation Energy Sdn Bhd (SEDC Energy) for the establishment of the first-of-its-kind plant in Malaysia focused on producing turquoise hydrogen and graphite.

This ground-breaking initiative represents a significant step forward in Malaysia’s energy sector, combining expertise from industry leaders and government bodies to advance clean energy solutions and promote sustainable development.

Key Highlights of the Initiative include:

Environmentally Friendly: The plasma technology ensures a process devoid of CO2 emissions or other pollutants, aligning with global sustainability goals;

Versatile Production: CURVE H2’s technology enables the manufacture of various carbon nanomaterials or battery components, catering to market demands while maintaining continuous hydrogen production;

Commercialization Plan: A comprehensive 5-year commercialization plan outlines the development of a mobile demonstration plant in 2024, followed by scalable production modules in subsequent years. The venture not only aligns with global clean energy trends but also contributes significantly to Malaysia’s transition to a low-carbon economy and aspirations for high-tech advancements. The initiative’s market implications span energy transition, value-added industries, environmental compliance, and technology transfers; and

Financial Outlook and Impact

Estimated costs for the initial two years encompassing the demo plant and product development are approximately RM56.5 million (USD12 million) and RM282.8 million (USD60 million) for the first stage, respectively. \

The Final Commercial Plant is estimated at a RM1.4 billion (USD300 million) investment projected for the final commercial plant, with a revenue potential of RM1.2 billion (USD250 million) annually and a target to supply Hydrogen at less than RM9.43 (USD2.0) per Kg.

The combination of Plasma Methane pyrolysis and CURVE H2’s patented processes positions Malaysia as a frontrunner in clean energy and advanced carbon applications, offering a sustainable pathway for hydrogen production and high-value carbon materials.

“This partnership underscores our collective commitment to advancing clean energy solutions and sustainable development in Malaysia,” said Azfar Azri Farid, Executive Director of Forte.

“By harnessing the potential of turquoise hydrogen and graphite production, we aim to contribute significantly to Malaysia’s energy transition goals and economic prosperity.”

Meanwhile, Mark Goorwah, CEO of CURVE H2, said, “We are expanding our operations and collaborating with partners in North America and the Middle East, in addition to Malaysia. I am impressed by the rapid advancement of Malaysia towards developing a hydrogen economy.”

The signing ceremony coincided with the Team Canada Trade Mission to Malaysia, orchestrated by The High Commission of Canada.

This trade mission took place at the Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel and Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur and was graced by the presence of Mary Ng, Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade, and Economic Development, alongside Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry of Malaysia.

Forte Greenergy Sdn Bhd is a Malaysian registered company focused on hydrogen production and the production of graphite (carbon black), while Curve H2 Inc. nis a high-tech Canadian hydrogen reactor developer and operator that leverages its proprietary technology know-how, intellectual property, and established partnerships to build reactors that can convert hydrocarbon gases (e.g., methane, acetylene, butane, benzene) directly from raw or mixed sources, emissions, or captured streams into hydrogen, graphite, carbon nanomaterials, and battery materials.
