MetMalaysia Warns Of Thunderstorm, Heavy Rainfall In March

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) in a statement today (Mar 25) said that the Transition Monsoon Phase is expected to begin on March 29, 2024.

This phase, expected to continue until May 2024, marks the end of the Northeast Monsoon 2023/24 season, which began on November 11, 2023.

During the transition monsoon phase, Malaysians can anticipate a shift in weather patterns characterised by gentle winds blowing from various directions.

These conditions are conducive to thunderstorms, often accompanied by heavy rainfall and brisk winds over short durations.

Particularly susceptible to these weather phenomena are regions along the west coast and inland of the Peninsula, western Sabah, as well as the southern and central areas of Sarawak.

Flash floods, fallen trees, and structural damage in vulnerable areas are potential consequences of these weather patterns.

As the transition monsoon phase unfolds, the prevalent hot and dry weather experienced across many parts of the country is expected to gradually diminish by mid-April.
