Economy Ministry Calls For Stakeholder Engagement At SDG Malaysia 2024 Summit

The Ministry of Economy Malaysia has issued a call to all stakeholders to join efforts in achieving the implementation of the remaining six years of Malaysia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) targets at its summit set to take place in July 2024.

Deputy Minister of Economy, Datuk Hajjah Hanifah Hajar Taib, expressed hope that stakeholders would provide feedback, suggestions, and new ideas regarding existing and planned policies related to sustainable development in Malaysia.

“This summit will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to provide input and feedback on existing policies related to SDGs and SDG implementation initiatives that need to be improved for the benefit of all,” she said in Putrajaya today (Mar 26) at the pre-launch of the SDG Malaysia 2024 Summit.

“Do not let this opportunity go to waste. This is the stage for you to share everything you are doing to achieve this common agenda and goal.

This is also the time for us to give a new face to old ideas or leave them behind and present new ideas to pave the way for a smoother path to achieve the 2030 Agenda,” she added.

Hanifah drew attention to the critical six-year period leading up to the deadline of the SDG targets set and agreed upon by more than 190 countries at the United Nations almost 10 years ago.

She emphasised Putrajaya’s commitment to implementing the SDGs at the Malaysia level, guided by the Ministry of Economy as the leader at the national level.

The SDG Malaysia 2024 Summit in July is led by the Ministry of Economy together with the National SDG Centre (NSDC).

The summit serves as a platform for all involved parties from various sectors to connect, exchange views and opinions, and jointly formulate new measures to achieve the SDG goals.

The summit, which will last for two days in July 2024, is a continuation of the same event held for the first time in September 2019, attended by more than 2,600 participants.

In addition to keynote speeches, plenary sessions, and discussion sessions involving experts, policymakers, and industry leaders, the summit will once again feature exhibitions and various side events involving youth and adolescents.
