Maintaining High Standards of Care

Ensuring the highest standard of care while remaining financially viable in the competitive healthcare market is a priority for Columbia Asia Hospital – Bukit Jalil.

“To decide on initial medical services to be introduced, we reviewed available data and statistics on government and public platforms; i) population demographics, projected growth, current and future development, and; ii) surrounding healthcare facilities, available medical services, and its utilisation.

The population in Bukit Jalil and surrounding neighborhoods is significantly diverse. There are two distinct groups of working-class young families and senior citizens/retirees which take healthcare as their priority.

The scarcity of private healthcare facilities coupled with congestion experienced by government hospitals within the community, has left a healthcare gap which needs to be filled.

Subsequent medical program diversification will be determined by multifaceted feedback and review of case-mix data,” Dr. Sharonpal said.

He underscored the importance of clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives in upholding patient safety and satisfaction.

Through continuous evaluation, risk management, and staff empowerment, the hospital strives to maintain excellence in healthcare delivery.

Additionally, this hospital places importance on clinical governance. “Our medical advisory committee and clinical subcommittees comprises of heads of clinical service and managers which serves as platform to raise and discuss clinical and operational matters, identify gaps and opportunity for improvement and formulate and implement risk elimination and mitigation measures to ensure high quality of patient care,” he said.

Dr. Sharonpal emphasised that they promote and encourage staff to speak up and report any incident which may affect patient care and/or seamless operations, discuss and implement short- and long-term improvement measures.

“We want to empower our staff to take ownership of patient safety and continuously work to create a patient-centric healthcare environment that prioritises safety and comfort, high-quality service, and constant innovation for improved outcomes.

Quality improvement activities are prioritised to ensure continuous improvement to patient journey to recovery in the most efficient and effective way,” he further added.

Looking ahead, the hospital envisions becoming the neighborhood’s primary healthcare destination, driving medical advancements, and emergency preparedness.

By prioritising patient-centric care, innovation, and community collaboration, the hospital aims to positively impact health outcomes and contribute to a healthier, more resilient community.
