Hari Raya Aidil Fitri marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. The auspicious day celebrated on 1 Syawal year Hijrah. It is a time of forgiveness within the Muslims and a time for strengthening bonds among relatives and friends.

New clothes, decorated houses and exchange of invitations between friends and relatives commemorate Aidil Fitri.

The first day after Ramadan is a busy one. On the morning of Hari Raya, Muslims would visit the mosque and recite special prayers. Other practices observed include asking forgiveness from elders and visiting relatives and friends.

Visitations usually begin with the parents’ home, where it is a custom among many Muslims to ask forgiveness from their parents for the wrongs they have committed in the past year. Most often, Muslims would visit the cemetery during Hari Raya, many do so as a remembrance of those who have left them.

On this day, Muslims have a lavish spread of food. They would have specialties such as beef rendang, ketupat and lemang along with many other delicacies.

Hari Raya Aidilfitri also known as Hari Raya Puasa, Hari Raya Fitrah, and Hari Lebaran, is celebrated by Muslims around the world regardless of race, whether Arab, English, Malay, Indian-Muslim, Chinese-Muslim and other nations around the world who are Muslims to mark the end of Ramadhan where the people Islam has been fasting fast.

It is among the two largest celebrations for Muslims, as well as Hari Raya Aidil Adha.

Aidil Fitri begins in two ways; that is through rukyah or reckoning. If through rukyah, when the crescent moon appears, this marks the beginning of the month of Syawal, or the 10th month in the Islamic Hijri calendar 1445.
