Amir Hamzah Engages With CRA And Global Delegations At IMF Spring Meetings

Malaysia’s Finance Minister II, Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, took center stage at the 2024 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG) held in Washington D.C. from April 17 to April 19, 2024.

The Spring Meetings provided a crucial platform for Malaysia to engage in bilateral and multilateral discussions with the IMF, WBG, and other member countries.

Addressing the assembly, Amir Hamzah underscored Malaysia’s commitment to addressing global climate change through the implementation of fuel pricing mechanisms aimed at promoting energy efficiency and transitioning to renewable energy sources. He emphasised the importance of balancing environmental sustainability with socio-economic considerations.

“In line with Malaysia’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable practices, we are dedicated to finding solutions that benefit both the environment and our people,” Amir Hamzah said.

During the Spring Meetings, Amir Hamzah engaged in fruitful discussions with Credit Rating Agencies (CRA) such as Standard and Poors (S&P), Moody’s, and Fitch. Additionally, he exchanged views on economic developments with delegation heads from other member countries through scheduled bilateral meetings.

He also held constructive dialogues with senior officials of the IMF and WBG to chart the direction of programs and activities carried out under Malaysia’s collaboration with these organizations.

Malaysia’s active participation in the IMF and WBG Spring Meetings underscores its commitment to fostering shared economic growth, particularly in the regional and global context.
