EG Aims To Develop Next-Gen 5G Wireless Network

EG Industries Berhad (EG Industries) and Cambridge Industries Group (CIG) have elevated their strategic collaboration with the signing of a second Letter of Intent (LOI) to manufacture the cutting-edge 1.6T Advanced High-Speed Optical Signal Transmitter and Receiver (Optical Modules) for 5G wireless networks. This partnership signifies a significant advancement in the realm of high-speed data transmission, catering to the demands of automation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in the 5G era.

The 1.6T photonics optical modules represent the pinnacle of industry innovation, facilitating seamless communication in 5G networks. EG Industries, serving as CIG’s exclusive manufacturer outside of China, is poised to play a pivotal role in the production and transfer of technology and intellectual property (IP) for these state-of-the-art modules.

Moreover, the expanded LOI encompasses the production of 800G optical modules, augmenting the previously agreed-upon models ranging from 100G to 400G. This diversified portfolio underscores EG Industries’ commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements in the telecommunications sector.

EG Industries Berhad, Group Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, Dato’ Alex Kang emphasised the significance of this partnership in driving technological innovation and meeting the evolving demands of the industry. He highlighted EG Industries’ strengths in production efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and global distribution capabilities, which have been instrumental in fostering a fruitful collaboration with CIG since 2018.

In addition to manufacturing prowess, EG Industries is poised to address the burgeoning demand for skilled engineers and independent testing facilities in the EMS sector. Collaborating with Eduspec, the company aims to establish a state-of-the-art Training and Development Centre dedicated to upskilling industry professionals in advanced 5G technology sectors.

The Training and Development Centre will serve as an excellence hub, nurturing local talents and engineers to meet the demands of the rapidly evolving industry landscape. Participants will undergo rigorous training, leveraging EG Industries’ expertise and insights gleaned from its global clientele.

Furthermore, EG Industries has appointed Eduspec as an independent professional testing services provider, bolstering its ecosystem and capabilities in semiconductor component testing. These strategic initiatives underscore EG Industries’ commitment to capturing growth opportunities in the burgeoning market for optical and AI modules amid the proliferation of wireless networking technologies.

With a net profit of RM23.2 million in the six months ended 31 December 2023, EG Industries is primed to leverage its enhanced capabilities and strategic collaborations to drive sustained growth in the years ahead. The company remains steadfast in its commitment to technological excellence, innovation, and meeting the evolving needs of its customers in the dynamic EMS landscape.
