DNB Announces New Board Members Comprising All 5 MNOs

As announced by the Communication Minister Fahmi Fadzil yesterday the country’s 5G stakeholer, Digital Nasional Berhad has unveiled the is pleased appointment of new Board members, comprising senior leaders from the telecommunications and technology industry, following the Share Subscription Agreements,

The agreements were signed between DNB, MOF Inc and five Mobile Network Operators on 1 December 2023, he five new members will join the other two incumbent members, Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican and Mr. Ma Sivanesan Marimuthu, on the Board of DNB.

Among them are from CelcomDigi (Infranation Sdn Bhd) Datuk Kamal Khalid, Maxis Broadband Sdn Bhd Uthaya Kumar K
Vivekananda, U Mobile Sdn Bhd Chang Yit Fei and Tan Kok Leong, Telekom Malaysia Berhad Nik Azli Abu Zahar Mohamed Tajul Mohamed Sultan and from YTL Power International Berhad Dato’ Seri Yeoh Seok Hong and Dato’ Dr. Fadhlullah Suhaimi Abdul Malek.

The appointment comes after media reports of dissatisfaction among the MNO’s surfaced when Channel News Asia from Singapore wrote an exclusive citing people in the know on the matter. Over the weekend, Prime Minister made a statement that the DNB matter will be discussed this week and soon after Communication Minister made the announcement yesterday that a new board members will be unveiled.

The government in December announced that it will be scrapping the Single Wholesale Model and opt for the Dual Wholesale Model, giving MNO’s more autonomy with regards to the 5G rollout. The second entity presumably comprising of MNOs have yet to be known or any details shared.
