Debate Over Civil Servant’s Salary Hike Is Unnecessary: Steven Sim

Human Resource Minister Steven Sim has expressed support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s recent announcement regarding the salary hike for civil servants, emphasising that it should not be subject to debate.

The increase, set to take effect in December of this year, marks one of the highest raises in the nation’s history.

Sim underscored the significance of valuing all workers in the country, citing the government’s commitment to reviewing minimum wage rates through the Progressive Wage Policy to ensure equitable compensation in the private sector.

He emphasised the pivotal role of civil servants as frontline workers, crucial for accelerating the country’s economic growth and fostering better job opportunities.

Highlighting the collaborative effort required for economic development, Sim noted that last year’s recorded approved investments totaling RM329.5 billion were made possible through the support of various stakeholders, including civil servants.

He emphasised the symbiotic relationship between investment, economic expansion, and job creation, stressing cooperation rather than competition among stakeholders.

Sim made these remarks following his participation in the Suara Anak Madani program, reaffirming the government’s commitment to recognising the contributions of civil servants and motivating them to further their efforts in advancing the nation’s economy.
