Today, Yayasan Hasanah (“Hasanah”), the impact-based foundation of Khazanah Nasional Berhad, revealed its tenth edition of The Hasanah Report (THR) 2023. The report highlights Hasanah’s far-reaching impact, reaching 2.9 million people across Malaysia in 2023 alone, with RM223 million disbursed during the year. Since its inception in 2015, Hasanah has disbursed a total of RM 1.6 billion, focusing on core areas of Education, Community Development, Arts, Heritage, and Culture (AHC), Environment, and Knowledge.
THR 2023 signifies a decade of Hasanah’s leadership in Malaysia’s philanthropic sector. Dato’ Shahira Ahmed Bazari, Trustee and Managing Director of Yayasan Hasanah, emphasised the theme of this year’s report, “Reinventing our Future: Harapan Tanpa Sempadan” (Hope Without Boundaries), which celebrates the inspiring stories of individuals shaping Malaysia’s future.
Innovative Solutions and Grassroots Initiatives
THR 2023 showcases the foundation’s commitment to innovative solutions and grassroots initiatives that challenge norms and empower communities. For instance, the Blind Planters Programme in Terengganu trains visually impaired individuals as planters, yielding 387 kg of Terengganu Sweet Melons to date.
Similarly, the Hasanah Gold Threads Awards (HGTA) honors local textile artisans, integrating them into mainstream industries and preserving arts, heritage, and culture. Hasanah also addresses mental health in schools, fostering intervention models to combat stigmas.
Nurturing Community Leaders and Sustainability
THR 2023 recognises the emergence of community leaders nurtured by Yayasan Hasanah-supported programs. The Temiar Orang Asli community in Perak transformed their village into an ecotourism destination, generating sustainable income under the leadership of the Tok Batin. The foundation also supports environmental initiatives, such as Roots & Shoots Malaysia, empowering 317 young individuals to contribute to environmental causes.
Partnerships for Collective Impact
The foundation emphasises the power of Public-Private-Philanthropy partnerships, acknowledging contributions from various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Finance, civil society organisations, and the private sector.
