MOH Assures Disclosure On Covid-19 Vaccines Effects After AstraZeneca Report Surfaces

The Health Ministry (MOH) has reassured that it will make public data on adverse events following immunisation (AEFI) resulting from Covid-19 vaccines. The statement was made by the Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, who did not specify a timeframe but said that in post-cabinet meetings, he has brought up the issue of publicising AEFI reports.

He emphassed that MOH is not hiding anything and will be responsible to the public. Responding to a question on whether there were reports of thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome linked to the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine in Malaysia, following a report released on the matter in Indonesia yesterday, he said that they have kept records on AEFI, including those who have died, and they have a register with everything in the data. He added that many parties, including the public, have requested the data.

Yesterday, news report stated that Indonesia’s National Commission for the Study and Prevention of Adverse Events Following Immunisation, MOH, and Food and Drug Authority confirmed that there had been no reports of thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome associated with the AstraZeneca vaccine in the country. When asked if he had received an explanation from AstraZeneca regarding the side effects of the vaccine, Dr Dzulkefly said he was waiting for an official explanation on the matter.

Previously, Dr Dzulkefly reportedly said that the company should provide thorough and transparent explanations not only to Malaysia but to the entire world to avoid public concerns.
