Proton’s April Sales Soar By 17.1% Due To Proton Saga, S70

Proton, Malaysia’s national carmaker, has reported a robust 17.1% increase in car sales for April compared to the same month last year, with 11,025 units sold. This surge was driven primarily by the popularity of its best-selling model, the Proton Saga.

The company revealed in a statement today that its sales performance for the first four months of 2024 has also been impressive, totaling 50,175 units. This figure marks a notable increase from the 49,702 units sold during the corresponding period in 2023.

The Proton Saga, renowned for its blend of features, driveability, and value, accounted for a significant portion of April’s sales, with 5,031 units sold. Year-to-date sales for the Proton Saga have risen by 8.8%, reaching 23,278 units.

Additionally, the Proton S70 witnessed a positive sales trend, with 1,635 units sold in April, contributing to a cumulative total of 7,463 units for 2024.

Despite a slight dip in the overall Malaysian automotive market in April, Proton maintained its market share, estimated at 18.7% for the month. Year-to-date market share is projected to be 19.2%, securing Proton’s position as the second-highest seller in the national automotive industry.

According to Roslan Abdullah, CEO of Proton Edar, the decline in automotive sales during April was attributed to the extended holiday period for Hari Raya Aidilfitri. However, Proton’s sustained demand reflects its ongoing commitment to quality improvement, resulting in enhanced confidence among consumers.

Moreover, Proton’s export sales have seen a notable uptick, jumping by 38.5% year-to-date in April. The Proton Saga leads in exports, with 427 units sold, followed by the Proton X50 and Proton S70.

Roslan expressed optimism about Proton’s export prospects, emphasizing the company’s strategic expansion into new markets such as Trinidad and Tobago, along with reestablishing its presence in Bangladesh. He underscored Proton’s confidence in the market’s rebound and reiterated the company’s commitment to excellence in all endeavors.

With Proton’s strong sales performance and strategic initiatives, the company remains poised for sustained growth and continued success in the automotive industry.
