AstraZeneca, the Anglo-Swedish pharmaceutical company, has decided to halt the distribution of its Covid-19 vaccine globally, as reported by the Telegraph on Tuesday.
According to Reuters, following the voluntary withdrawal of its “marketing authorisation,” the vaccine is no longer eligible for use within the EU.
The application for withdrawal was submitted on March 5 and took effect on May 7.
AstraZeneca intends to submit similar applications in the UK and other countries where its vaccine, known as Vaxzevria, has been approved, in the upcoming months.
Additionally, it was reported that AstraZeneca did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment after regular business hours.
