Thai Court Accepts Petition To Remove Prime Minister

Thailand’s Constitutional Court on Thursday agreed to accept a petition seeking to remove Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin from office over a complaint on his cabinet appointment.

Judges voted by five to four not to order him to stop performing duties pending the court’s verdict, the court said in a statement.

Thai property mogul Srettha Thavisin was elected prime minister after a decisive win in a parliamentary vote on Aug 22 as his party’s fugitive figurehead Thaksin Shinawatra made a historic homecoming after years in exile.

Srettha was often linked to the Thaksin family and sometime rumoured to be running the country under the guidance of the former premier.
