RansomHub Targets Prasarana: 316 GB Of Data Allegedly Compromised

Prasarana Malaysia Berhad has confirmed a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorised access to parts of its internal systems. The public transport operator reported on social media that it had been targeted by the RansomHub ransomware group.

According to the threat intelligence platform Falcon Feeds.io, the group claims to have obtained 316 GB of Prasarana’s data and has threatened to publish it within the next 6 to 7 days. Ransomware is malicious software designed to block access to a computer system or files, typically by encrypting the data, until a ransom is paid to the attacker.

In a statement, Prasarana assured the public that the incident has not disrupted its daily operations. The company is working with cybersecurity experts and coordinating with the National Cyber Security Agency (Nacsa) and CyberSecurity Malaysia to investigate the breach and mitigate any potential threats.

“Our focus remains on resolving the matter promptly while ensuring that our services continue to meet the needs of the public,” the statement read. Prasarana added that it would continue to provide updates as appropriate.

Prasarana operates a comprehensive range of transport services under the RapidKL brand, including light rail transit (LRT), mass rapid transit (MRT), bus rapid transit (BRT), KL Monorail, and a fleet of stage buses.
