The Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed that 46 suspected cases of monkeypox or mpox in Malaysia have tested negative.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad stated that, to date, the number of mpox cases in Malaysia remains at nine, recorded at the end of last year.
He said that since August 16, nearly 5.2 million travelers have been screened at international entry points.
“The last time we encountered positive cases of the Clade II variant (nine cases), which is less severe than Clade I, was in December 2023,” he told reporters at the Walkabout Smoke-Free Clean Premises Program at Jalan Dhoby here last night.
Also present were Public Health Director-General Datuk Dr Norhayati Rusli, Johor State Health Director Dr Mohtar Pungut @ Ahmad, and Johor Health and Environment Committee Chairman Ling Tian Soon.
Dr Dzulkefly also said that screening of travelers at all border entry points, including airports, to curb the spread of mpox, would not cause delays in clearance at the country’s entry points.
“We will continue to enhance our monitoring at land, sea, and air entry points, including international airports.
“…there are no delays. We conduct screenings using mobile scanners, so I don’t foresee any technical issues or delays,” he added.
