According to OAG Megahubs 2024 report, in this year’s ranking, Asia Pacific stands out with three airports in the Top 5 Megahubs: Kuala Lumpur (KUL), Tokyo Haneda (HND), and Seoul Incheon (ICN). This trend underscores the region’s recovery and growth in international travel.
The report highlights significant connectivity growth across Asia, with four additional Megahubs from Southeast Asia making the list—Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK), Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL), and Changi Airport (SIN). In Northeast Asia, seven airports are recognized, including Narita Airport (NRT), which made a remarkable jump from 60th place in 2023 to 15th in 2024.
When it comes to low-cost connections, Asia Pacific airports dominate, comprising 64% of the Top 25 Low-Cost Carrier (LCC) Megahubs. Kuala Lumpur (KUL) leads the list, offering 14,583 possible low-cost connections across 137 destinations. AirAsia is the primary carrier at KUL, controlling 35% of total flights and 48% of all LCC capacity.
Manila (MNL) has risen to second place on the Low-Cost Megahubs list, surpassing Incheon (ICN) with a robust connectivity ratio to 97 destinations.
“As Asia Pacific continues its rise in global rankings, OAG Megahubs reflects the growing recovery of international air travel and the strong demand for low-cost travel in the region,” said Mayur Patel, Head of ASPAC at OAG.
