Malaysia is enhancing its efforts to explore unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology through a partnership with China, focusing on the exchange of expertise and technology in the field.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced the collaboration between MARA Aerospace & Technologies Sdn Bhd and Honeycomb Aerospace Technologies (Beijing) Co Ltd, which is the third largest UAV technology company in China. This partnership will enable Malaysia to produce its own UAV technology.
Dr Ahmad Zahid highlighted that this technology is extensively used in agriculture and border security, allowing Malaysia to meet local and international market demands for UAVs.
As part of the initiative, Honeycomb Aerospace will transfer its technology to the University Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT) in Sepang to train students in UAV manufacturing. The first UAV assembly is set to commence next month, with an initial production target of 3,000 units per year.
Additionally, the company plans to invest RM100 million next year to establish a permanent facility for training students in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector.
This collaboration marks a significant step for Malaysia in developing its UAV capabilities and nurturing the next generation of skilled professionals in this growing field.
