Moomoo Securities Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (Moomoo Malaysia) has launched its first-ever #MerdekaBersamaMoofest, a three-day event aimed at improving financial literacy among Malaysians.
Supported by Bursa Malaysia, the event underscores Moomoo’s dedication to enhancing investor experiences and offering easier access to financial markets, with the goal of empowering Malaysians to achieve financial independence through innovative technology.
During the event, Moomoo Malaysia announced plans to become the first company in Malaysia to offer US Options trading.
Additionally, Moomoo will introduce access to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX), allowing local investors to diversify their portfolios by tapping into two of the world’s largest financial markets.
Investor Sentiment Survey Highlights
A key highlight of the event was the release of Moomoo Malaysia’s H2 Investor Sentiment Survey. The survey revealed that 60.4% of Malaysian investors favor purchasing stocks during market downturns, indicating a growing trend of viewing market dips as buying opportunities.
Increasing cash reserves was the second most preferred strategy, chosen by 37.4% of investors, reflecting a cautious approach aimed at seizing future opportunities.
Other strategies included shifting to defensive sectors (favored by 22.2% of respondents) and diversifying into international markets, with 1 in 4 investors seeking to invest beyond Malaysia.
Dennis Jee, Chief Operating Officer of Moomoo Malaysia, commented on the survey findings: “Nearly 2 out of 3 Malaysian investors maintain a positive market outlook for 2024.
The fact that over 60% are buying during market dips and one-third are increasing cash reserves shows a more strategic, data-driven approach to investing. Moomoo is committed to providing the tools and resources to support this trend.”
Tech and AI Leading Investment Sectors
The survey also found that 37% of Malaysian investors are focusing on technology and artificial intelligence (AI) sectors, reflecting growing confidence in these industries’ long-term potential. Other highly attractive sectors included energy, healthcare, and finance, highlighting a diversified investment approach.
Empowering Financial Independence
The #MerdekaBersamaMoofest event featured a panel discussion titled “Moo-ving Malaysia Forward: Building Your Merdeka Portfolio, Investing for Independence,” with speakers including Kathlyn Toh, Founder of Beyond Insights, and Zeff Tan, Chief Trainer of SHARIX.MY. The panel explored how financial education and technology are shaping modern investing, with an emphasis on building financial independence.
