Detractors Can File A Motion Of No Confidence If Want Me Out: Anwar

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has challenged the opposition to file a motion of no confidence against him in the upcoming Dewan Rakyat session this October.

The Parti Keadilan Rakyat president urged the opposition to adhere to the law, rather than simply fuelling sentiment or calling for him to step down from the position.

“There are 30 people telling Anwar to step down (from the position of prime minister). What do they think, this country has no rules, no law, no system (Parliament)?

“To urge someone to step down, please file a motion for a vote of no-confidence in the Dewan Rakyat session this October. Even if the motion is filed late, I will approve it,” he said when addressing 10,000 party supporters at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil.

Anwar stated that the actions of opposition leaders appeared to be an attempt to sway their supporters with reckless calls for his dismissal as prime minister.

Meanwhile, Anwar criticised the attitude of the opposition who do not reflect the struggle of Islam, pointing out that they often spread slander, hurl abusive words and swear at political opponents. He said the opposition also relentlessly uses narratives to undermine the efforts and successes of the Unity Government under his leadership.

“What else is wrong? In their speeches, everything about us is not right. They say our economy is ruined… don’t they read the newspaper?

“The ringgit has strengthened. (They) want to talk about the economy but they just go about spreading lies.”

Anwar also chided the attitude of the opposition who often used his status as an ex-convict as capital to criticise his administration.

“Yes, I am indeed an ex-prisoner, but an honourable prisoner who faced cruel and vile accusations,” he said.

He noted that the current generation of the opposition seems to lack substance, relying only on slander and insults. In contrast, during his time as deputy prime minister, when he was a victim of tyranny, prominent figures in the opposition, such as PAS leaders and religious figures, stood up to defend his cause.
