The postpartum period can be a mixed bag of emotions for new mothers—moments of joy and bonding intertwined with challenges that extend far beyond those sleepless nights. In Malaysia, studies show that approximately 14.29% of new mothers face postpartum depression, with insufficient spousal support and mood disturbances significantly contributing to this mental health struggle.
Amidst this landscape, Little Precious Postnatal Care (LPPC), founded by award-winning architect and interior designer Katrine Cheong, stands as a beacon of hope. Recognising the pressing need for enhanced postpartum care and support, LPPC provides a sanctuary where mothers can focus on their recovery—both physically and emotionally.
The Ruby Suite at LPPC epitomises luxurious postnatal comfort and care. Designed by Katrine herself, the suite has garnered accolades, including the MIID REKA AWARD 2021 for Design Excellence and the Asia Pacific Property Award 2021 for Best in Public Service Interior. Every detail of the facility reflects Katrine’s expertise as a leading architect, ensuring unparalleled comfort and serenity for all guests. “From the moment a mother steps through our doors, she is enveloped by an environment designed to soothe and uplift,” explains Katrine.
Katrine’s journey to founding LPPC is as inspiring as the sanctuary she has created. Having grown up in a small, partitioned room without windows, she vowed at just 10 years old to become an architect and build her dream home. “It ignited a determination in me to create something greater—not only for myself but for others as well,” she reflects. This determination culminated in a space dedicated to mothers, providing them with comfort, care, and tranquillity during a challenging time.
Deeply influenced by her family’s business in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Katrine has integrated holistic practices into every facet of LPPC. The centre enriches postnatal recovery through TCM-based meals, customised to cater to each mother’s nutritional needs, honouring centuries of tradition. “As a mother of three, I understand the physical and emotional demands of postpartum recovery. We set ourselves apart by being customer-oriented, listening and catering to individual needs,” she shares. Katrine emphasises the importance of safety, with strict COVID-19 testing protocols in place to prevent infections. With a nurse-to-baby ratio of 1:2, mothers can rest easy, knowing their little ones are well cared for.
LPPC prides itself on its team of over 60 professionals, including paediatricians, TCM doctors, nutritionists, physiotherapists, and lactation consultants. Offering round-the-clock care, the centre upholds high standards of service for both mothers and newborns. Unique therapies, such as music and art therapy, are incorporated into their holistic approach, addressing the mental health needs of mothers during recovery.
Since its opening during the pandemic in 2020, LPPC has supported over 1,000 mothers, establishing itself as a trusted sanctuary for postnatal care. The centre continues to evolve, incorporating innovative technologies like Emsella, a non-invasive medical device aimed at improving pelvic floor health, thereby facilitating faster recovery for mothers. In a world where postpartum care is crucial yet often overlooked, Little Precious Postnatal Care shines as a luxurious refuge, blending cutting-edge technology with traditional wisdom to set a new standard in recovery.
