Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook announced the upcoming integration of the My50 pass with the Touch ‘n Go (TnG) e-wallet, allowing users to renew their passes conveniently without the need to queue at LRT station counters. This integration is expected to be completed in the coming months, enhancing user experience for public transport in Malaysia.
Loke emphasised the importance of the My50 monthly pass, stating that the government subsidy aims to make public transport more affordable and accessible. He highlighted that the total subsidy borne by the government, including the My50 pass, amounts to RM1,200 for each user per year.
“That’s why the government provides subsidies, as the subsidy to Prasarana is a subsidy to the people, encouraging them to use public transport. We implement this (subsidy provision) based on several objectives: to reduce the cost of living and to decrease the number of vehicles on the road,” he said.
As of September this year, more than 220,000 users were recorded using the My50 monthly pass, double the number since the initiative was launched in 2019. Loke noted the affordability of the My50 pass, stating it costs less than RM2 for commuters to travel from home to work. “We warmly welcome the public to use the My50 pass, an initiative implemented by the government to encourage more people, but practically, it helps reduce the cost of living,” he added.
The integration with TnG e-wallet is part of a broader effort to improve the convenience of public transport usage and encourage more Malaysians to take advantage of the My50 pass, ultimately contributing to lower living costs.
