The Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) project is on track, with 95% of infrastructure works completed as of November, the Senate was informed today.
Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah shared that work on other system components, such as rolling stock, signalling, power supply, distribution, and telecommunications, began earlier this month.
In response to a question from Senator Datuk Halim Suleiman about the RTS Link’s progress, Hasbi stated, “So far, the government has spent RM2.5 million on completing the civil infrastructure for the RTS project on the Malaysian side. A total of RM5.2 billion has been allocated for the entire project in Malaysia.”
The RTS Link service, which is set to begin operations on December 31, 2026, is designed to accommodate up to 100,000 passengers daily, with trains running every 3.6 minutes during peak hours. Hasbi estimated that around 30,000 to 40,000 passengers would use the service in its first year.
He also mentioned that Malaysia Rapid Transit System Sdn Bhd (MRTS), as InfraCo Malaysia, had granted early access to RTS Operations Pte Ltd (RTSO) at the Wadi Hana Depot to commence installation of trackworks.
