Malaysia’s preparations as ASEAN Chair this year have been managed effectively by the civil service, demonstrating high levels of efficiency and discipline, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Speaking at a gathering with staff from the Prime Minister’s Department today, he emphasised that managing ASEAN is not just about status or prestige but reflects the capability of the civil service in ensuring smooth national administration.
“This certainly requires an extraordinary level of dedication. From what I have observed, our preparation for the events is among the best I have seen,” he said.
Anwar also took the opportunity to commend civil servants for their dedication and hard work in ensuring the smooth administration of the country, particularly in handling official events involving international leaders.
“I have visited dozens of countries, and I can say that our level of preparation and organisation is among the best. While we may not be as luxurious as some nations, our efficiency, discipline and meticulous planning are truly commendable,” he said.
He also highlighted the often-overlooked contributions of civil servants, stating, “Hundreds of thousands of civil servants at all levels are involved in these preparations, yet such commendable efforts rarely receive media or social media coverage.
“What is often highlighted are isolated incidents of mistakes or missteps. While it is not wrong to address errors, it is unfair to overlook the efficiency and dedication of our public service,” he added.
