AFA PRIME Bhd will begin the KL-Karak Expressway (KLK) Widening Project in the second quarter of 2025, while flood mitigation works are already in progress along the East Coast Expressway 1 (LPT1).
The KLK expansion spans KM19.2 to KM64.5 between the Gombak and Bentong toll plazas. It will add one lane in each direction and widen road shoulders from 2.5 metres to 3 metres. These shoulders will function as smart lanes during peak hours.
The 48-month project includes eight new emergency bays, slope trimming, drainage upgrades, and enhanced lighting near Genting Sempah Tunnel, where construction will only occur during non-peak hours.
“Our goal is to build a future-ready expressway. We have incorporated real-time monitoring systems, contingency planning, and emergency response protocols to ensure that motorists remain safe and informed even during construction,” said Ir Vijayaraj, Executive Director of AFA PRIME.
On LPT1, flood mitigation efforts include drainage upgrades and infrastructure enhancements to reduce flash flood risk. Edgenta PROPEL Bhd has been appointed as traffic management partner, with 24/7 monitoring, safety assets, and patrol teams to manage traffic flow during construction.
