Malaysia’s food supply remains unaffected by the Middle East conflict as the country is not heavily reliant on food imports from Iran, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu confirmed.
“Our food imports from Iran are minimal, mostly dates and legumes — not major staples,” he said at during a press conference.
He added that Malaysia sources the bulk of its food imports from countries like India, Pakistan, China and the ASEAN region, insulating it from disruptions in Iran.
On domestic agriculture, Mohamad said 60 per cent of the country’s padi production remains unaffected by the ongoing hot weather, though adjustments to planting schedules may be necessary based on input from Muda Agricultural Development Authority and the Kemubu Agricultural Development Authority authorities.
