Worldwide Holdings Bhd’s wholly owned subsidiary, Worldwide Entech Sdn Bhd, has been officially recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) as the first company in the country to convert a sanitary landfill into a public recreational park.
The award was presented to Worldwide Entech Executive Director Datin Paduka Norazlina Zakaria on July 11, marking a new chapter in Malaysia’s green infrastructure journey while underscoring the company’s role as a pioneer in sustainable land transformation.
Located in Puchong, the 100-acre site boasts a rich legacy of firsts. Initially developed in 1995 as Malaysia’s first engineered sanitary landfill, the site again made history in 2004 for implementing the country’s first landfill gas-to-energy project, converting methane from waste into electricity.
Now, it adds a third landmark achievement to its name, a full conversion into a community-centric recreational park that is complete with landscaped greenery, walking trails and public amenities, all designed to international post-closure landfill standards.
“This achievement by Worldwide Entech is a proud reflection of our group’s ongoing commitment to environmental innovation and CSR. To transform a former landfill into a thriving public space speaks to what sustainability truly means; turning yesterday’s challenges into tomorrow’s shared value,” Norazlina said.
The recognition also cements Worldwide Entech’s reputation as a trailblazer in environmental rehabilitation and sustainable waste management.
As the environmental management arm of Worldwide Holdings, the company continues to unlock new potential in green development, with three waste-to-energy projects underway in Selangor, aimed at redefining how Malaysia tackles urban waste.
