Severe Thunderstorms Building Up Around Malaysia, Expected To Last From 8-12 July

Malaysia is expected to experience a spell of severe thunderstorms from July 8 to 12 as strong westerly wind convergence develops over parts of the country, raising the risk of prolonged heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the latest weather forecast models indicate the strong wind convergence will affect northern Sarawak, Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan from July 8 to 10, before shifting to the northern and eastern parts of Peninsular Malaysia from July 10 to 12.

The weather pattern is expected to trigger strong winds and rough sea conditions over the South China Sea, Phuket waters and the northern Strait of Malacca.

MetMalaysia also warned that the conditions could lead to the formation of squall lines, bringing severe thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds over the affected areas for extended periods.

The public is advised to stay updated through MetMalaysia’s official website and social media channels, as well as the myCuaca mobile application, for the latest verified weather information and warnings
