The Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCCI) and Maybank Singapore Limited will be advancing cross-border trade and investment, with a strategic focus on the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) and wider Southeast Asian markets.
The collaboration, formalised through the signing of a memorandum of understanding in the presence of Singapore’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Trade Gan Siow Huang, reflects a joint commitment to enhance regional economic cooperation.
The collaboration couldn’t have come at a more opportune time, particularly when Southeast Asia is poised to become the world’s fourth-largest economy by 2030, with a projected combined GDP of US$4.5 trillion.
Malaysia’s diversified economy and proximity position it as a natural investment hub for Singaporean businesses. The JS-SEZ, in particular, is envisioned as a high-impact initiative to deepen bilateral ties, boost connectivity, and streamline supply chain integration between Singapore and Malaysia.
Through the partnership, SCCCI and Maybank will co-develop programmes including business forums, trade missions and networking events to support regional expansion. Maybank will also offer bespoke banking solutions, such as green lane financing, trade finance, ESG-linked products and accelerated account onboarding processes for businesses entering or expanding within the JS-SEZ.
SCCCI members, on the other hand, will gain access to capacity-building initiatives in areas such as sustainability, Halal advisory and cross-border financial services, supported by Maybank’s dedicated JS-SEZ Desk.
“This strategic partnership strengthens our members’ competitiveness for the future. By combining SCCCI’s extensive business network with Maybank’s regional financial expertise, we are opening new doors for Singaporean enterprises to expand into Malaysia and beyond,” SCCCI President Kho Choon Keng said.
Meanwhile, Maybank Singapore CEO Alvin Lee Han Eng said with a dual-market advantage in Singapore and Malaysia and a strong presence across all 10 ASEAN countries, Maybank is well-positioned to support SCCCI members with holistic banking solutions and market insights.
