Stock Today: Maybank Edges Up To RM9.54 Amid Expectations Of Steady OPR In 2H25

Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) saw its share price inch up 0.10% to RM9.54 at 2.48 pm today, amid investor sentiment shaped by expectations that Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) will maintain the Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) at 2.75% for the second half of 2025.

The counter opened at RM9.55 and reached an intraday high of RM9.60 before retracing slightly. Volume was moderate, with 35.6 million shares traded.

The marginal gain comes as Maybank Investment Bank Bhd maintained its view that the central bank is unlikely to adjust borrowing costs in the near term, citing stable economic indicators and contained inflationary pressure. A stable rate environment generally supports banking margins and loan growth visibility, especially for financial heavyweights like Maybank.

The stock has moved within a narrow range over the past six months, in line with cautious sentiment across regional financial markets as investors monitor global rate direction and domestic earnings momentum.
