Bangladesh Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus To Visit Malaysia

Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, is scheduled to undertake an official visit to Malaysia from August 11 to 13, 2025. The visit, at the invitation of Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, is intended to reciprocate the Prime Minister’s visit to Bangladesh in October 2024.

Dr. Yunus will be accompanied by several advisors and senior government officials during his three-day trip, which aims to strengthen diplomatic ties and foster cooperation across multiple sector

The visit’s main events are concentrated on August 12, when Dr. Yunus will be officially welcomed at the Perdana Putra Complex in Putrajaya. This will be followed by a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The two leaders are expected to review the progress of relations between Malaysia and Bangladesh, with a focus on key areas such as Trade and investment Labour and education and Tourism and defence

The discussions will also cover regional and international developments of mutual interest.

Following their meeting, the leaders will witness the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and Exchange of Notes in a wide range of fields, including defence, energy, diplomatic training, and higher education. The Prime Minister will also host an official luncheon in honor of Dr. Yunus and his delegation at the Seri Perdana ComplexA

The visit’s final day, August 13, will highlight Dr. Yunus’s academic and social contributions. He is scheduled to deliver a public lecture and will be conferred an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Social Business by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He will also have a special session with members of the Yunus Social Business Centre community and the university network, in a programme jointly organized by UKM.

The visit underscores the robust relationship between the two nations, which have maintained diplomatic relations since 1972. In 2024, total trade between Malaysia and Bangladesh reached RM13.35 billion ($2.92 billion), marking an increase of 5.1% from the previous year.

Bangladesh remains Malaysia’s second-largest trading partner and export destination in South Asia. Key Malaysian exports to Bangladesh include petroleum products, palm oil, and chemicals, while imports from Bangladesh mainly consist of textiles, footwear, and other manufactured goods.
