Govt Drives Future-Ready 5G Broadcasting In ASEAN

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today officiated the 5G Broadcast Conference, organised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), drawing over 400 participants from various industry sectors and government agencies at the Putrajaya Corporation Complex.

The conference builds on MCMC’s Future Broadcasting Technology Study, initiated in 2023, which explores the potential of new technologies such as 5G Broadcast to empower Malaysia’s broadcasting industry, including television, radio and digital streaming. Findings indicate significant opportunities to optimise broadcasting infrastructure and enable sustainable new service models.

Key technology partners supported the event with live demonstrations and technical trials, including Rohde & Schwarz Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., Xiaomi Technologies (M) Sdn. Bhd., Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., Harmonic Inc., Spacelabs Technology Sdn. Bhd. and Cedar Broadcast & Communications (M) Sdn. Bhd. These collaborations showcased the practical feasibility of 5G Broadcast technology in a local context.

The conference also featured presentations by local and international experts, discussing global trends, implementation challenges and policy adaptation strategies. The sessions provided a platform to strengthen cooperation among industry players, government agencies and researchers in developing a more sustainable and future-ready national digital broadcasting ecosystem.

Malaysia is positioning itself at the forefront of 5G Broadcast exploration in the ASEAN region through comprehensive studies and testing, reflecting the MADANI Government’s commitment to advancing the nation’s broadcasting technology for the future.
