“As Chair, Malaysia carries the collective hopes of over 600 million ASEAN citizens,” said Foreign Affairs Minister Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan. “Hosting the Summit allows us to reaffirm Malaysia’s leadership role while showing that we are a trusted and capable partner in global diplomacy. The theme encapsulates the country’s vision of a stronger, more connected, and future-ready region, while reflecting Malaysia’s foreign policy priorities — regional stability, inclusive growth, and sustainable development.
“Malaysia’s role is to ensure ASEAN remains relevant and resilient,” the Minister explained. “We want to empower growth across all sectors while inspiring unity among our member states and peoples.”
Delivering Outcomes That Matter
As Chair, Malaysia has outlined three strategic outcomes it hopes to achieve through the Summit and beyond — reaffirming ASEAN unity and centrality in navigating complex regional dynamics, deepening economic integration through greater cooperation in digital trade, supply chain resilience, and sustainable investment, and advancing human security, particularly in addressing climate change, education, and social protection.
The approach, according to the Minister, is grounded in balance and bridge-building. Dedicated task forces have been formed to ensure inclusive dialogue among member states.
“Diplomacy,” he emphasised, “is about consultation, consensus, and constructive engagement. Every voice — large or small — matters.”
Keeping ASEAN Central Amid Global Tensions
In a world increasingly divided by geopolitical competition, Malaysia is positioning ASEAN as a neutral, constructive convener — a bloc capable of engaging all partners without taking sides.
“Malaysia’s foreign policy has always been principled and pragmatic. We believe ASEAN’s strength lies in its ability to foster cooperation rather than confrontation. As Chair, Malaysia is committed to keeping ASEAN at the centre of regional architecture.”
This balanced diplomacy extends to sensitive issues such as the situation in Myanmar, the South China Sea, and the Indo-Pacific. Malaysia is advocating for peaceful solutions grounded in dialogue and ASEAN principles — urging continued progress under the Five-Point Consensus for Myanmar, promoting restraint and early conclusion of an effective Code of Conduct for the South China Sea, and enhancing cooperation in connectivity and sustainability across the Indo-Pacific.
Championing Economic Integration and Digital Growth
Economic cooperation remains the bedrock of ASEAN’s success, and Malaysia’s chairmanship will focus heavily on strengthening supply chain connectivity, expanding the region’s digital economy, and accelerating the green transition through renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure.
One of the landmark deliverables this year is the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) — a major initiative aimed at creating a unified digital marketplace worth an estimated US$2 trillion by 2030.
“This agreement will redefine how ASEAN trades, invests, and innovates,” noted the Minister. “We are also enhancing investment facilitation mechanisms to make ASEAN more competitive as a single, sustainable destination for high-value industries.”
Malaysia’s own strengths in connectivity and green financing are expected to play a pivotal role. Cross-border digital payment systems, renewable energy grids, and ESG-aligned frameworks will form the backbone of ASEAN’s new economic model.
Partnership with the Private Sector
Recognising the private sector as a key driver of regional growth, Malaysia will host the ASEAN Business and Investment Forum alongside the Summit to promote public–private collaboration. Businesses can expect clearer frameworks on investment incentives, digital trade regulations, and green economy initiatives.
“The private sector is our partner in progress,” the Minister said. “We want to create an environment where innovation thrives and sustainable industries flourish.”
A Whole-of-Government Effort
Behind the scenes, Malaysia’s preparation for the Summit reflects unprecedented coordination across ministries and agencies. From Wisma Putra’s diplomatic management to the Home Ministry’s security measures and the Tourism Ministry’s hospitality efforts, the ASEAN Summit represents a unified national endeavour.
“This is a whole-of-government effort,” the Minister affirmed. “Every agency, from the Prime Minister’s Office to state governments, is working hand-in-hand to ensure Malaysia delivers an event that is efficient, welcoming, and world-class.”
Security and logistics are being handled with precision — ensuring safe, seamless experiences for visiting heads of state, delegates, and media representatives.
Building ASEAN’s Future: Sustainability, Connectivity, Inclusivity
Malaysia’s chairmanship also seeks to leave a lasting legacy by advancing ASEAN’s long-term agenda in sustainability and digital inclusivity. Key initiatives include the launch of the ASEAN Green Transition Fund, expansion of regional broadband and data-sharing infrastructure, and support for micro and SME entrepreneurship through financing programmes.
