Train Set 02, the first train for the Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, arrived at the Wadi Hana Depot on Nov 15 and has now entered a comprehensive testing phase.
RTS Operations Pte Ltd (RTSO) CEO Dr Ahmad Marzuki Ariffin told Bernama that the train will undergo a decoupling exercise on Nov 16, followed by a series of static tests before entering three phases of dynamic testing.
“These dynamic tests will see the train running from the depot to Bukit Chagar Station, crossing the border to Woodlands North Station in Singapore, and returning to the depot to evaluate real-world performance.
“Through these three dynamic tests, the train will run at low speed under actual operational conditions on the mainline,” he said, adding that the assessments will cover signalling, communication systems and on-track train performance to ensure safety and reliability.
He highlighted that testing and commissioning of all eight RTS train sets are expected to take six to seven months, after which the fleet will be cleared for driverless operations. Passenger capacity tests will begin next year.
Meanwhile, RTSO chairman Datuk Khairil Anwar Ahmad said overall project progress has reached 65%, with all work carried out according to strict standards and safety protocols.
“Operational planning is done meticulously to prepare for any eventuality, including unpredictable weather,” he said.
Once operational, the 4km RTS Link will connect Bukit Chagar and Woodlands North, transporting up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction.
