Five areas in Sarawak recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 8 am today, amid worsening haze conditions in the state.
The affected areas are Serian, Kuching, Samarahan, Sri Aman and Bintulu, according to the Department of Environment (DOE).
The DOE also detected 25 hotspots nationwide, with 22 in Sarawak, two in Selangor and one in Terengganu.
In response, the National Open Burning Action Plan and the National Haze Action Plan have been activated.
The measures aim to coordinate monitoring and response efforts as air quality deteriorates in affected areas.
