Singaporean drivers continue to flout Malaysian Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) regulations, with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) issuing 4,634 summonses worth RM1.39 million from July 1 to Nov 20.
During this period, JPJ inspected 65,039 Singapore-registered vehicles at the Malaysia-Singapore land border, including the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex, Sultan Iskandar Building, Sultan Abu Bakar Complex and surrounding areas in Johor Bahru.
The fines were issued to vehicle owners or drivers, both individual and company-owned, who either failed to register for the VEP, had expired permits or were still in pre-registration status.
Under Section 66J of the Road Transport Act 1987, fines must be settled and VEP registration completed before leaving Malaysia. Drivers without a valid VEP also face a RM300 penalty.
The figures highlight the persistent challenges at the Malaysia-Singapore border, as authorities step up VEP enforcement to ensure smoother cross-border traffic and strengthen road safety.
