EPF, Immigration Team Up To Tighten Foreign Worker Contribution Enforcement

The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and the Immigration Department have integrated their systems to enable more accurate and secure data sharing on Temporary Employment Visit Passes (PLKS), Employment Passes and other valid work permits, a move aimed at tightening compliance with mandatory EPF contributions for foreign workers.

The collaboration, formalised at the Home Ministry’s monthly assembly in Putrajaya, is designed to strengthen enforcement and streamline verification processes following the rollout of mandatory EPF contributions for non-Malaysian workers on Oct 1.

EPF said the enhanced data flow will allow faster and more reliable checks on workers’ status, supporting authorities as they move through the implementation phase.

EPF Chief Operating Officer Sazaliza Zainuddin said the integration improves transparency and accelerates registration, marking “an important step” toward disciplined policy execution and stronger governance across Malaysia’s employment ecosystem.

So far, 1.3 million foreign workers have contributed through about 60,000 employers, with EPF noting strong uptake among compliant businesses.

However, the fund warned that some employers still fail to meet their obligations, undermining workers’ social protection.

Employers who have yet to comply were reminded to do so immediately to avoid penalties and legal action.
