Prudential PLC Emerges As Substantial Shareholder In Newly Listed Orkim Bhd

Prudential plc has surfaced as a substantial shareholder in Orkim Berhad following the petroleum tanker operator’s listing on Bursa Malaysia, according to a filing with the exchange.

The British multinational insurance group acquired 51.32 million shares, representing 5.13% equity interest in Orkim, through its fund management arms under the Eastspring Investments umbrella. The subscription took place on 1 December 2025 as part of Orkim’s initial public offering (IPO).

Based on the disclosure, the shares are held via two entities Eastspring Al-Wara’ Investments Berhad – 10.43 million shares and Eastspring Investments Berhad – 40.89 million shares

The acquisition is classified as a direct interest, with no indirect or deemed interest reported.

Prudential’s notice was lodged on 5 December and received by Orkim the same day. The filing also notes that the lodgement aligns with the company’s listing date of 9 December 2025, marking one of the first substantial shareholder declarations for the newly listed marine logistics player.

Orkim Berhad, known for its fleet of clean petroleum product tankers, recently debuted on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia, drawing interest from institutional investors anchored by its long-term charter contracts with major oil companies.
